“Being a part of the UNA’s M&M internship program is an absolute honour, and I can easily say that this is the most exciting opportunity of my life.
My name is Hiba Kamal-Choufi, born in Colombia and raised in Lebanon, a small Mediterranean country, rich in cultural traditions yet still very modern.
Media has always been my passion, and from an early age I knew that media work was what I wanted to do. I spent three years completing my degree in journalism before I started working in broadcasting which has been for over four years now. While working as a news editor and reporter in Beirut, I completed a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy. Having this educational background has allowed me to further understand and appreciate media work.
When I first moved to Edmonton, Alberta in September of 2011, I thought that I would have difficulties as a newcomer finding a place in the media industry where I can grow and excel, but now that I have been given the opportunity to complete a six-week internship with Shaw TV, I have become one step closer to achieve my career goals here in Canada.
I am currently volunteering with a multicultural radio station here in Edmonton, which has allowed me to meet new people, one of whom was the reason why I applied to the M&M program.
Special thanks to my lovely husband Brendan for his continual support. I would also like to thank my mother, sister, and everyone who has led me here, especially the United Nations Association in Canada.”
